How to Heat-Style Your Remy Capillus Real Hair Extensions
Posted on October 07 2015
While you’re certainly able to style any of your Remy
Capillus real hair
extensions with curling irons or straighteners, just like with natural
hair it’s important to take certain protective steps and avoid applying heat
too often, lest your hair become irreversibly damaged. Hair that has been
“fried” will lose sheen, become brittle, and tangle much more readily than hair
that is in good shape. Remy Capillus Luxury Collection extensions come with a
12-month warranty, while the Premium Collection can last as long as 6 months;
to get the most out of your real hair extensions while still experiencing
versatility through heat styling, we recommend following these tips.
Use a thermal-protectant
hair product. These products, which you’ll find in any drug or department
store, are specifically designed to coat hair in a manner that allows it to be
malleable under styling tools, yet undamaged from direct application of heat.
Avoid silicon-based products, as they may cause buildup that will make your
real hair extensions appear limp. Look for any product that lists “thermal
protective,” “heat-resistant,” or any variant thereof as one of its features.
Blow-dry on medium or
cool. Though it will take longer than blowing your hair dry on the highest
heat, using the medium or, better yet, cool setting will prevent both damage
and frizz. Using the coolest setting on your blow dryer will leave your hair
incomparably soft and silky – you may never go back to hot!
Invest in ceramic
hair styling tools. Ceramic straighteners are named as such because they
use ceramic, rather than metal, plates to conduct the heat that is used to coax
your hair into straight styles. The main benefit of ceramic is its ability to
evenly distribute heat, as opposed to metal, which can result in “hot spots”
that burn parts of your hair. Ceramic plates also lock in moisture, rather than
removing it from cuticles, which prevents frizz. The same benefits apply to
ceramic curling irons, too.
If you love putting curls and waves into straight hair, but
would prefer to try alternate methods before resorting to a curling rod, below
are two excellent, additional options.
Flexirods. Also
known as “bendy-rollers”, these soft tubes encase a wire that allows you to
twist your hair into perfect spirals, blow dry on warm or cool, and leave in
overnight without needing to sleep on a head of hard plastic (like with
traditional hot rollers).
Damp-styled waves. To
get beachy waves without applying heat to your hair, simply wet it, brush it
out, and separate your hair into two sections. Twist each section tightly, turn
each twist into a side bun, and let dry overnight. The result will be gentle,
natural-looking waves.
