How to Tell if Your Hair is Really Remy
Posted on February 05 2016
As with any quality product, the term “Remy hair extensions”
– real hair extensions known within the beauty industry for their sheen,
longevity, color, and natural appearance once installed – has been appropriated
by many companies hawking cheap, low-end hair extensions to unwary customers,
who may believe that what they are purchasing will live up to their
expectations of the name.
So how to tell the difference? Fake Remy extensions often
use the name to bolster their prices to nearly the same as that of high-end real hair extensions,
diminishing one’s ability to tell quality based on what they are paying, and
increasing the disappointment once the product fails to deliver what has been
promised. If you’ve purchased extensions and are unsure if you have truly
received Remy hair, use these indicators to tell.
-
Too shiny
upon purchase, or a dull appearance after a short period of time. When
cheap hair is purchased by weave manufacturers, it is often gathered from many
different sources and hastily packaged for processing, meaning that cuticles
become inverted and the overall appearance is unattractive at best when left
that way. To remedy this issue, companies will, using a harsh chemical process,
strip the cuticles from hair to prevent this tangling, then treat the hair with
silicone – giving it an unnaturally shiny appearance and smooth feel. “Higher
low-end” fake Remy hair may not appear as revealingly shiny upon first glance,
but will quickly lose all luster and appear dull after just a few weeks of
wear.
-
Severe
length differences in individual strands of hair. As above, because cheap
hair purchased in bulk is mixed during some part of the procurement process,
you are getting hair from many different donors, all bunched into one
low-quality extension. If your extensions appear “choppy” with different
lengths of hair, this is an indicator that they are unlikely to hold up. A note
– hair from even a single donor, even if never before cut, will include some
differences in hair length that are entirely natural; it will be evident when
this is the case.
-
No
variation in color. Coloring can cover up some of the evidence that hair is
low-quality and temporarily improve its wearability - but to the discerning
eye, this also serves as great evidence that hair is unlikely to be real Remy,
and thus a good predictor that it is not worth purchasing as it will quickly
degrade in appearance (dye will also come out after just a few washes). If your
hair appears to be unnaturally uniform in color, this is a good sign that it
has been dyed – a head of hair, even of the darkest black, should have natural
high- and low-lights, occurring from exposure to the sun.
We guarantee that you
