Warm-Weather Styling Tips for Your Remy Capillus Hair Extensions
Posted on April 01 2016
Now that summer’s close at hand, many of our customers can’t
wait to debut their Remy Capillus extensions on the beach or at their favorite vacation
spot. We’ve also heard some of your concerns about how to best care for your
hair during the summer months, so we’ve compiled our three favorite tips for
maintaining your real hair extensions
while you soak up the sunshine.
Swim With Caution
One question our customers frequently ask around this time of year is whether
they can go swimming with their Remy extensions. Broadly, the answer is yes,
but be cautious, depending on the kinds of extensions you have. You can
certainly wear some brands of Remy extensions to the beach and go swimming with
gorgeous locks, but as with all good things, moderation is key.
In the case of RC Pure extensions, their huge advantage is there are no
limitations on swimming in pools and hot tubs, but we recommend that you wash
your hair immediately after exposing your hair to all that chlorine. Additionally,
RC Pure hair that has been braided shouldn’t go in salt water, although
freely-flowing hair is fine in the ocean. If you’re wearing RC ProLine™ extensions, which are gently treated to
achieve their different textures and colors, we also recommend that you wash
and condition the hair after swimming in chlorine pools or salt water.
Wear Sunscreen (Yes, In Your Hair)
We hope that sunscreen is already part of your summer skincare routine. No
matter your skin tone, sun exposure without UV protection can lead to premature
aging and a heightened risk of skin cancer. But when applying sun protection
before you go out, do you think of your extensions?
The sun’s powerful rays can have a similar aging effect on your hair (although,
thankfully, no risk of disease). Prolonged exposure to the sun can fade
extensions or render them brittle. Protect your hair from the sun by spritzing
a salon-approved sun-protectant on your extensions before you leave the house.
Keep Up Your Routine
Spring and summer are the most tempting seasons to skip on hair care routines.
Vacations spent in the sun and surf and nights out on the town are part of the
fun, but can lead to skimping on your hair upkeep. Keep your hair soft and
lustrous by using high-quality, salon-worthy products such as those made by
Redken and Matrix, and stick to your usual care routine of brushing, oiling or
wrapping—whatever you usually do to keep your hair looking beautiful. You’ll
thank yourself come fall.
